Tis the season to dress up…tra.. la.. la.. la.. la.. la.. la.. la lahhhh!!!….The party season is now well and truly upon us and what better excuse to glam up. But what are this seasons must have’s and trends you should be wearing this yuletide? First up the wardrobe classic – the cocktail dress. Seen on the catwalks at Gucci it was reworked to become more edgy. Jewel toned dresses are hot- making the most chic and fun cocktail frocks of the season. One of my favourite is Olivia Rubin’s pink tiered puff dress (pictured above) £190 at my-wardrobe.com. For a cheaper look try Tesco’s. They have some of the best party frocks on a budget that I’ve seen. These outfits are guaranteed to grab attention wherever you go but make sure you toughen up the look with some fierce shoes, the higher the better.
Next up – shimmy through the party season in sequins and glimmering metallics. Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past three months you can’t have failed to notice that sequins and embellishment are EVERYWHERE at the moment. From shoes, to bags, scarves, T-shirts, skirts and of course dresses. A sequin dress is perfect for a festive party- flattering and very forgiving for most figures. There are some great ones around particularly at Next and Oli – but my favourite is a grey one from Wallis £60 and if you want to hide your bingo wings this dress takes care of that. Make sure you keep your accessories understated to avoid outsparkling the Christmas tree!
The big fabric of the season is Velvet. Forget the frumpy shapes of the Eighties, and your grans curtains- this time round it’s been cleverly revitalised and is hot on fashion’s radar. It was seen on the catwalk at Ralph Lauren and the celebs seem to love it – Fearne Cotton is a big fan and has designed a few velvet pieces in her range for very.co.uk. There are loads of velvet dresses on the High street- two of the best are at Marks and Spencer’s and Dorothy Perkins but for me it has to be Topshop’s jumpsuit in midnight blue.
Finally a true fashion classic- the Tux. It’s always fashion forward and this season designers like Ralph Lauren and Roberto Cavalli sent out tuxedos with sleek skinny trousers. You can either wear the whole suit as a strong alternative to the dress or toughen up a feminine frock by wearing a jacket. If you want to soften the look go for lingerie details and delicate jewellery.
So there you have it some key style’s that should get you looking red carpet worthy for all those parties.
