Graduate Fashion Week kicked off today at Earls Court 2. It’s the UK’s largest showcase of young fashion talent, which stages a static exhibition displaying the work of some 50 universities across 52 courses – plus approximately 22 university fashion shows – each June.

I have to say the openeing day did not disappoint. There were a  stunning array of  innovative designs with the University Of East London opening the event.I particulaly liked graduate Jennifer Bourne’s creations which included elegant draped dresses in soft jersey with rich embellished shoulders.

Rich evening wear was showcased by Jane Branco- silk jersey dresses in nude and ice cream shades billowed down the catwalk.

But my favourite has to go to Bunmi Olaye’s warrior-like woman collection (pictured above). Iinspired by the mysterious, men-only Leopard Masquerade cult of the Efik tribe in the Nigerian province of Calabar, mixed with references to the high-collars, tight waists and voluminous sleeves of the Victorian era The look plays with proportions, gorgeous colours, vibrant prints with strong shoulders and enhanced waists.

And it seems this designer is already mixing in the right circles. Last year she established her own label which now has a celebrity client list which includes Mel B, Mischa Barton, Alesha Dixon and Estell.

Definately one to watch!
