The 35-year-old broadcaster will front Kiss Goodbye To Breast Cancer, an online video and viral campaign by beauty giant Avon UK.

The campaign aims to unite breast cancer survivors including Avon UK president Anna Segatti in a short film.

Avon said it was asking women to send a link via email to nine women in their lives to spread the “TLC” message – urging women to touch, look and check their breasts for early warning signs of breast cancer.

Ms Segatti said:

“Making this film was an extraordinary experience. It was a real privilege to be in the company of such brave and inspiring women. As a breast cancer survivor, this cause is particularly special to me and I’m proud that, as the company for women, Avon has now raised nearly £15 million in the UK for the breast cancer cause.”

It’s unsurprising then that Edith has leant her support to the ‘Festival Annual’ an online collection of the best photos from this year’s festival season – with specially comissioned photographers and revellers alike submitting their best snaps to the site to become a part of festival history.

Jaime Winstone has also given  her support to the project as a way of immortalising memories, and reliving the festival experience everytime she logs on.

Edith tells us how close she came to becoming a PE teacher, before applying to study ‘Communication Studies’ at Queen Margaret University College in Edinburgh, as well as giving us her tips on what makes a good presenter and her pre-show radio nerves.

Affable, down-to-earth and self-effacing, Edith gives us an unrivalled insight into the career of one Britain’s best loved DJs.

Edith and the panel will have to choose from a shortlist which includes Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Radiohead’s OK Computer and Nirvana’s Nevermind – as well as Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black and Oasis’ (What’s the story) Morning Glory.

The results will be aired on the 11th April  – and we don’t envy Edith’s decision.

Edith Bowman’s current favourite band hail from Texas and their latest album shows traces of 1970’s influence. “They are the most perfect band in the world.”

Live music is “like a drug” for Edith and she tries to see as many gigs as possible. “I love going to gigs on my own. It’s empowering in a way because you don’t have to worry about anyone else having a good time.”

“There’s so much great stuff coming out of Britain right now,” Edith tells t5m, and the secret to her taking notice of a song is if it connects in some way: “makes me feel some kind of emotion.”

If there is one thing that makes Edith angry, it’s reality TV. “We’ve got great comedy and great documentary but everything in between is pretty rubbish.”

“People now are famous for being famous – famous for showing their arse coming out of a taxi.” She can’t quite believe that Big Brother has been commissioned for yet another series but does believe firmly in the power of educational television: “The programmes that Louis Theroux does… that’s amazing telly… that’s brilliant telly… that’s reality TV.”

Then came Channel 4’s Ri:se, the live breakfast show that Edith “can’t remember much about because it was so early in the morning,” before Film4’s Filmspotting gave her the chance to realise her love for cinema.

“I think it’s great when you discover a passion for something as you get older, and you expand that and explore it.”

From New Zealand to Japan, Bolivia to Barcelona and Cairo to Sweden, Edith has certainly made up for her lack of gap year, relishing the chance to immerse herself in traditional cultures and cuisine.

Edith thrives on live radio and thinks that “being nervous keeps you on the ball.”

But however much she loves her job as a BBC Radio1 presenter, she loves music even more. One of her fondest memories involves a trip to Wigan to see The Verve, accompanied by Cat Deeley, Zane Lowe and music promo director Huse Monfaradi, in a champagne-coloured Mercedes.

Edith tells t5m how highlights of working with Colin include their radio show making it to daytime, their first stint presenting Glastonbury on the BBC together and how much she learnt from him.

“Colin has too much intelligence for his own good. He actually needs to be about three people, to do all the stuff that he’s thinking about, talking about and wants to do.”
