My my, the fashion world certainly does love juicy rumours. Potential news about campaigns, the latest models, stores and celebrities all cut it in the race to provide the best rumour of the week. And ever since social media became the new black, the fashion rumours have got bigger and better. The news about Cheryl Cole signing up for L’Oreal was all over the blogosphere before it hit the papers, and the ever-in-the-know Perez Hilton seems to know all there is to know about everyone fashionable in Hollywood and on the streets of NYC. In fact, fashion gossip proved to be so all-encompassing that he started a website dedicated to fashion news, cocoperez.com. Not to mention all the gossip we can get from the online versions of our favourite fashion mags – why just look at the catwalk pictures in Vogue when you can go online and find out what happened behind the scenes, who stormed out, who was the best on the night and which celebs said what about each other. Being a fashion writer I obviously have to keep up with all the news as it rolls in, and my Google Reader sees more action before 9am than the rest of the day. We can now get all of our daily fashion news and gossip before we even reach the office. Believe me, the Metro is old news by the time I’ve stepped onto my train.

So for all you beleaguered fashion lovers who are finding yourselves behind the times by the time your favourite magazine comes out, here are some of the most interesting fashion stories from the few days, rumours and all.

LiLo and Ungaro

Oh dear, poor Lindsay Lohan is not having a great time of it recently, especially when it comes to her reputation as the Girl Who Ruined Ungaro. The internet has been awash with rumours that those behind the scenes at the label have come to blows over whether to keep her on or not, after news that a couple of American retail department stores would not be buying Ungaro stock from the new collection because of its recent slating in the press. Surely not a good start to a collaboration in this economy? But the CEO of the company Mounir Moufarrige has been quoted as saying, “yes, she’s staying on, she has a job to do.” He also argues that one of the reasons that the collection has not been selling quite so well this season is because of the recession, and has berated critics for being so harsh and critical of the line and of Lindsay. But it hasn’t stopped Mr Emmanuel Ungaro himself speaking out, calling Lindsay’s new influence over the collection ‘a disaster’. Ouch.

Stella and Leona

Another snippet of design collaboration gossip found from the blogosphere (thanks Perez!) is the potential design partnership between the lovely Leona Lewis and one of Britain’s hottest designers, Stella McCartney. Both are committed vegetarians and supporters of animal rights, and so the rumour has it that the two ladies are going to design a range of animal-friendly clothes. We wait with baited breath to hear more on this subject!

Model of the moment

Endearingly sweet, classy and elegant Russian model Natalia Vodianova has certainly not been hit by the recession. Not only have rumours been circulating for a while now that she will be the new face of YSL, but also that she will star in the Givenchy adverts and has been signed up by above-mentioned Stella McCartney to be the face of the brand after walked the catwalk show for Stella in September.

In other model news….

The famous Victoria’s Secret show is always splashed across the internet, with each extravagant theme and bevel of beauties pored over on blogs and in magazines. It may seem a strange choice for women to latch onto (we all know our boyfriends fancy, well, any one of them) but it’s such a glitz-fest that we all dream of being Heidi Klum or Adriana Lima parading down the runway in lingerie’s finest. Well we might not be getting up on the catwalk anytime soon but we might at least be able to get our hands on some Victoria’s Secret pieces to prance around our bedrooms in. Apparently the brand are looking to expand into Europe and may even set up camp on one of fashion’s new favourite streets, Regent Street in London.
