This is about as close as I get to listening to Dubstep

Mount Kimbie - Maybes by cohenburg
This is Mount Kimbie. They're two nice chaps from London who play chilled out electronica (and did that amazing Foals cover for Spanish Sahara). They started out wanting to make dubstep and soon realised that they were awful at it: "It was a total disaster...we made four or five tracks and they were terrible, we had no idea how to make bass".So yeah, this isn't... -
Gucci Mane might just be some kind of genius
26th May 2010 | 2 comments | 2 people like this
As you may have gathered from the headline, I have an unhealthy obsession with Gucci Mane. If you don't know who he is, here's a quick summary: rapper from Atlanta, grunts a lot, has a posse of weed carriers that yell BURRRRR at the top of their lungs throughout most songs, likes wearing jewelry, has a penchant for all things yellow, releases songs at such a rate that make Lil' Wayne...

Introducing – Minimal Wave
7th April 2010 | 0 comments | 0 votes yet, click here to agree or disagree
Nope. Minimal Wave isn't the buzz band that happen to be making this weeks internet rounds. In fact, Minimal Wave isn't a band at all. It's a genre, albeit one named posthumously. Also known as Coldwave, it refers to a relatively small collection of musical output, originating in France in the late 70's and spreading throughout Europe, North America and Japan in the early 80's, spurred on by the French...

The Very Best team up with Kano
28th October 2009 | 0 comments | 1 person likes this
Lately I’ve been getting into The Very Best’s debut LP, Warm Heart of Africa. It's a really good record, and I've also recently found out that it's the perfect thing to put on at a house party if you want to both have fun and stop the guy that is desperate to play Nirvana or Nickelback or something else horrid from taking over the sound system and ruining everybody's night.
One... -
OutKast’s Big Boi is baaaaack!
19th October 2009 | 0 comments | 3 people like this
Remember OutKast? You know, the Atlanta group that used to be the biggest name in experimental hip-hop, then went on to release solo albums under the band's name (Speakerboxx/The Love Below) and star in a dud of a film called Idlewild (which I actually thought was pretty good), and then all of a sudden disappeared from the face of the planet? If that doesn't help, they also had a couple of... -
Introducing – Eddy Current Suppression Ring
9th October 2009 | 1 comments | 2 people like this
Ok. So maybe this isn’t exactly the best example of ‘introducing’ a band. Eddy Current Suppression Ring already have two albums out, and I’m pretty sure a lot of you music-blog-savvy-types will have already heard of this Aussie band that are named after a copper ring around a transformer which subdues Eddy Currents. The fact is though, I’ve just been enjoying them so much right now that I’m just going... -
Damon Albarn to direct the Olympic Ceremony?
25th September 2009 | 2 comments | 3 people like this
Could this be the best non-sporting related Olympics news EVER? Is the Blur and Gorillaz man actually going to be the artistic director for the 2012 London Olympics? According to the Independent, he's in with a pretty good shot. Reportedly Albarn is the frontrunner for the artistic director gig, currently nudging out film director Stephen Daldry.
If Albarn is successful, would this then mean that the London Ceremony might actually be... -
Introducing – Neon Indian
8th September 2009 | 1 comments | 1 person likes this
For the past few months, Neon Indian have become just about the most bloggable band to materialise from the backed up orifice of psychotic-bloggability known as Brooklyn. Yet despite their elusive nature, the truth is that they’re only half-casts, and are actually made up of some girl from Brooklyn and a guy from Austin (Alan Palomo from VEGA). Which actually kind of means that whilst retaining the Brooklyn connection (because... -
Introducing – O.Children
3rd September 2009 | 1 comments | 1 person likes this
O.Children are an East London four-piece that channel Nick Cave and Joy Division to an equally disconcerting extent. While riding the post-apocalyptic wave of The Horrors recent success, O.Children have so far managed to stand out from their crowd with their appealingly danceable offerings. Gothic disco and baritone vocals anyone?
Their debut single Dead Disco Dancer (watch the video above) - which also features the equally brilliant B-Side Dead Eye Lover... -
New Moon soundtrack releases stellar line-up
28th August 2009 | 1 comments | 1 person likes this
Lead singer of Death Cab for Cutie, Ben Gibbard, is a man who I have always admired for his taste in literature. A venerable fan of Jack Keroac, he has recently been recording music for the new Keroac documentary, One Fast Move and I’m Gone: Keroac’s Big Sur.
However, unbeknown to me and just about everyone else on the planet, Gibbard’s taste in literature isn’t just limited to the King of...
