Modesty was the order of the evening in Anne Magill’s case last night. The Irish artist was charmingly humble despite the fantastic reaction garnered by her paintings at the Art London private view.

We caught up with the artist at her stand at the fair, and she in high spirits. ‘It’s been fantastic, so busy; I’m getting used to it quite slowly!’

A former illustrator who worked on big commercial campaigns for companies such as Nike and Levi Strauss, Anne’s paintings are intense and atmospheric, the kind of pieces that would work very powerfully in a room in someone’s home.

‘It’s all about evoking atmosphere and an essence of the emotion around the picture. Some of them start off from people I’ve known or places I’ve seen, or just something I enjoy looking at. And then I kind of… push it and see.’

Anne also admits that she can’t resist eavesdropping on people viewing her paintings. We can’t imagine she’ll hear anything but praise.
