Sculptor Guy Portelli talks to t5m about slaying dragons and pop icons.

Raising his profile ahead of his 2009 exhibition via the BBC’s popular programme, Dragon’s Den, was a smart move from this artist.

‘As an artist you need to raise the profile of your work and all artists do it in different ways and I realised that I had a project that really would attract the media attention but I needed to get it out there.’

His works draw on ’symbolism, fashion, politics, music…’ trying to ‘fuse all these elements together’.

When it comes to Art London, Portelli is impressed. ‘It is one of the great events in the social calendar. It’s a very solid exhibition and this year is even better than previous years.’

According to Portelli, art, like fashion, is very cyclical and it is the artists of the 50s and 60s who are currently en vogue.
