Film review: Invictus is Clint Eastwood’s best yet

Invictus
I once read the films Clint Eastwood directed weren't big box office draws, but they did grab the attention of those handing out the Oscars. That might be true for some of his past projects, but Invictus throws that stereotype out the window. It's definitely his best film yet and, although it definitely will garner Oscar attention and praise, it will capture the fans at the box office...

"7dayBinge"
7dayBingeRock Ridge MusicSide projects of well-known bands sometimes end up as popular as the original band that brought about fame in the first place. Take Stone Sour, A Perfect Circle, Dashboard Confessional, Jack's Mannequin, Gov't Mule and The Postal Service for example. The newest addition to the side project world is 7dayBinge. The band is set to release its self-titled debut album digitally Dec. 8, with a hard copy release... -
Artist Spotlight: Family of the Year

I like discovering new bands. It's like stumbling upon a secret stash of chocolate. The lure is their openness, enthusiasm and often fresh approach to music making. Los Angeles-based Family of the Year is my most recent find.
Described as indie pop rock, the band formed just this year and already are leaving a mark. The group released an EP earlier this year called Where's The Sun, and their debut album, Songbook, hit music... -

Film review: Ninja Assassin delivers action with every punch

"Ninja Assassin"
I am an action movie fan. I readily admit it. Growing up watching TV shows like "Kung Fu" or movies such as "The Killing Fields" from a young age, I learned quickly the difference between campy and impressive when it came to fight scenes. "Power Rangers" is campy. "The Bourne" series is not. I put "Ninja Assassin" is the same category as Matt Damon's action-spy thriller trilogy....

Film review: The Blind Side solid film that pulls on heartstrings

The Blind Side
Warner Bros. PicturesThe Blind Side is an inspiring true story of beating the odds. It’s not Oscar material, but it is a solid film. You can’t argue with truth, and the movie proves a person doesn’t have to be dead or old to have a film made about his or her life that pulls on the heartstrings of the audience and leaves them asking the question: What am... -

Norah Jones
The Fall
Blue Note RecordsJazz songstress and Grammy winner Norah Jones returns to the world music stage with the release of her latest album, The Fall, this week (Nov. 16 worldwide; Nov. 17 for U.S.). However, this time, she stretches her wings musically. Gone are the piano and jazz overtones, as evidenced with the release of the first single, “Chasing Pirates,” last month. Jones proves she’s a master of more... -

Review: Katatonia mixes the melodic and intense on latest album

Katatonia
The Swedes "get" music. It's their greatest export. Since the 1970s, Sweden has introduced the world to musical acts with international staying power - ABBA, Ace of Base, The Cardigans, Opeth, The Hives, The Sounds, Covenant and, of late, Basshunter, to name a few - and proven that no matter the genre - pop, rock, techno, metal - they do it best. Swedish quintet Katatonia...
