Do you say “Happy Anniversary” to your husband once you are divorced?. I have now been divorced for nearly two years, and I still remember the day I got married, the promises we made to each other, and which we ultimately and sadly broke. But its funny the words I said to him still stick in my brain, and they are thousands of years old but not so out of date. With so many people divorcing what does marriage mean in the year 2009?. Well I have children with a man I respected and loved, and I just became a little wild and out of control. “Post -Natal- depression- of- living- the -school -run- syndrome”, I don’t know, it is just a day that I remember, what I happily agreed, when I was very young. I met Johan when I worked for him for 7 weeks. He was brilliant, shy and sweet. I was getting divorced from my first husband. ( when he walks through the door I still think I am married to him too). I knew very little about my first one then, we sort of grew together into a shape I became uncomfortable with. He was young and vibrant, a ski- ing champion with cups, a golfer with no handicap, an active athletic male. I was a stodgy wife having babies, and not wanting to go out. It of course fell apart. Except we are best friends and this can never change, despite what people may think. I suppose I like the ancient system of wives that the Chinese created. The first ones are always given huge respect, and the new wives respect that. I feel Queenie, no matter what or who comes into his life, and luckily he treats me with this respect. So happy anniversary Johan, and its been a wonderful 23 year old friendship.

3 years, 9 months agoI loved this post, and couldn’t stop thinking about it. I was actually a bit miffed with my ex the day you posted it, so I didn’t respond. After careful reflection, a great trip to London, and a little spiritual healing I wrote a blog in response to your query. Thank you for the great “food for thought”….as always. Oh, and yes I did wish him happy anniversary.
